A technique for estimating effort required to meet project goals, typically used in software projects. The technique attempts to avoid the anchoring cognitive bias (where the first figure spoken tends to become a baseline) by forcing group members to present their estimates through numbered cards, laid face-down. Since the initial estimates are hidden, the group can arrive at an estimate that's more accurate. Sometimes, this technique is also called 'Scrum Poker'.
